What is “Sento Running”?

Definition of Sento run

The definition of “Sento running” refers to the running method using “public bath” which is a public bath in Japan.

There are 4,293 public baths that combines shower, bath and sauna etc. in Japan as of March 2016.

Bathing rates differ from prefecture to prefecture, but you can use from about 350 yen to 460 yen, extra fee will be added for use of sauna.

Before you jog you can put your luggage in the locker, and after running you can relax with a bath by sweating with a shower.

How to do “Sento running”

The way to use the public bath as a running facility varies depending on the public bath you use, but generally you can execute according to the following procedure.

① Please tell the reception “running”.
② Pay your bathing fee and change your clothes at the changing room.
③ Pass the key of the locker to the reception desk.
④ Let’s go out and run.
⑤ When you return, you will receive the key at the reception desk.
⑥ Let’s relax by taking a bath.

Notes on “Sento Run”

Not all Sento can be used as a running facility.
Although it increases with the increase of the running population, the public bath that can be used for running is still limited.

Also, even if “Sento Run” is possible, in most cases the time to go out is limited, in general there are many 2-hour systems,
In some cases it may be as short as 1 hour.
