【Hiking trail】
Although it is not well known, there are many mountains that are suitable for hiking in Tokyo.
If you are staying in Tokyo for a week, why not try going to the countryside near Tokyo for one day?
A beautiful valley, an old shrine and a relaxing hot spring will heal you and will surely be unforgettable memories.
【Running spots】
If you are a runner, why do not you visit the sightseeing areas of Tokyo by running?
There are many facilities equipped with shower and hot spring for runners in Tokyo.
The experience of running through the Imperial Palace, traditional temples and shrines with your own feet is a wonderful memory that you can not change anything.

The course which goes from “高尾山 Mt. Takao” to “陣馬山 jimbayama” is a very popular course that you can enjoy historical temples and various types of tea houses and is a popular course for many hikers.
As we arrive within one hour by train from Shinjuku, good access is possible,The climbing mouth is directly connected when you get off the station, and there are hot spring facilities at the station.

Although there are many routes leading to the summit of Mt. Takao, “No. 1 Road” is connected to the Yakuin House, the summit, and you can enjoy worship and history.
There are sightseeing spots such as shops and stone garden on the way, so you can slowly aim for mountaintop while enjoying Mt. Takao.

You can enjoy various statues and monuments on the way to the summit.
You can enjoy all-you-can-eat buffet while enjoying the night view at “Takao beer mount” on the way.

There are lots of restaurants dealing with souvenir and snacks.
”薬王院 Yakuouin” was opened by high priest Buddhist bodhisattva by Emperor Shomu in the Tenpyo 16th year (744) years ago from now.
At the summit of Mt. Takao, if the weather is nice, Mt. Fuji can be seen, and many climbers take a meal break.
There are many restaurants offering snacks such as buckwheat and curry rice.
Trail runner may buy onigiri etc. before departure and take breakfast here may be just right.
The guide board is written as 5 hours to “陣馬山 Mt.Jimba” of the destination, if it is a trail running it may be about 3-4 hours.
Let’s start with Mt. Kobotoke Shiroyama!
Various snacks and drinks are sold at Mt. Kobotoke Shiroyama, and if the weather is nice, you can enjoy your meal with the best view.
I enjoyed the shaved ice this day!
When You take a rest, You will head to Kobotoke Pass and Mt. Kagenobu.
Mt.Kagenobu tea house is only open on Saturdays and Sundays until around 3 pm
It is finally arriving at Mount Jinjimayama which is the destination.
There is a monument of White horse Statue on the summit of Mt.
There is a wide lineup from snacks such as soba noodles and noodles to alcohol, soft drinks and ice cream at “Shimizu tea shop” at the summer mountain mountain mountain.
Drinking beer while drinking in sense of accomplishment is the best!
A steep descent continues to the bus stop “陣馬高原下 Jinbakougenshita”.
Washing your face in a creece will heal your tiredness.
You can have soba with freshly picked vegetables on “Jinba Soba Yamashita”.
“甘酒 amazake” is a sweet drink made by mixing glutinous rice (koji) into glutinous rice.
Only one bus will come almost in an hour.Let’s eat also soba slowly and wait!

If you think that you want to run downtown in Tokyo, I strongly recommend using “Fuku no yu”.
“Fuku no yu” is the so-called Japanese Public Bath, but running is available.
You can leave your package in the locker of “Fuku no yu”, and feel free to enjoy the running downtown (with just the smartphone and the coin) by hand.
Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi areas are called “Yanesenn”, and you can enjoy many temples built in the Edo period and cheap and delicious bars and restaurants unique to downtown.
After running, after refreshing in the bath, it is good to enjoy the downtown sightseeing slowly this time!
To “Fuku no yu”, “Honkomagome Station” of Tokyo Metro Namboku Line is nearest.

Tokyo Metro Nanboku Line「本駒込駅 Honkomagome station」
“Fuku no yu” is a wooden, stylish Japanese architecture with a modern atmosphere.
As soon as you pass through the goodwill, it is a shoebox and a series.
When you run for 5 to 10 minutes from “Fuku no yu”, you will arrive at “Yanaka Gingansa”.
“Yanaka Ginko” is a top-class famous shopping street in Japan, with about 60 large and small shops lined up.
In the retro, a city where you can feel somewhere. Not to mention shopping, there are plenty of shops that you can eat.
“Shi-no-nigoru” is a unique shop that can make your own private stickers.
Why do not you use your favorite kanji as a souvenir of Japan with Hanko?
Hanko is completed in about 30 minutes at 2600 yen per one.
It will be completed while running around Yanaka!
“Ichifuji” you can buy snacks that you can eat, such as croquettes and yakitori.
“Kanekichienn” is a traditional Japanese tea ceremony store and a traditional Japanese pottery shop.
They decorate lovely, reasonable and wonderful ceramics that they have independently found throughout Japan.
In the Yanaka Ginza shopping area, seven wooden carving cats are hiding and searching for the children is a secret boom among those who visit the shopping district.
How many cats can you find?
Yanaka, Sendagi area has grown as a “Temple town” since the Edo era.
Hongyouji Temple
It is dotted with traditional Japanese temples and historic treasures in every part of the city.
Enmyou JIzou
Suwa Shrine
“Yanaka Cemetery” The area is about 100,000 square meters and is a graveyard with about 7,000 graves.
There are tombs of celebrities such as Tokugawa family 15th generation Shogun General Yoshinobu and Yokoyama Taiman of painter of the Edo period.
Tennoji is a temple where the lottery official certified by the Edo shogunate was performed.

Even now, you can enjoy a quiet Japanese garden.
A large seated statue of Buddha, look-like for the giant image of the Buddha in Kamakura, has been enshrined in the this precinct since 1690.
When I finish running my recommendation is “Standing Bar Sharaku”.
You can enjoy 10 kinds of homemade fresh lemon sour.
It is the original potato salad, which is like a ice cream, with mentaiko riding, it was delicious.
Daibutsu Hiking Course is a hiking course packed with highlights that connects ‘Jouchiji Temple of Kitakamikura’ and the symbol of Kamakura ‘Great Buddha’ which stands on the grounds of Kotokuin Temple.
It is a course with a great relief and a walking distance of about 3 km in total length. Please avoid leather shoes and heels.
Hiking course which is representative of Kamakura very popular from hiking beginners to advanced people.
If you have plenty of time you can enter the hot spring in the ocean view and relax and return home.
Kamakura is a popular tourist destination to arrive in about 1 hour from Shinjuku. You can see lots of old shrines, temples and Japanese garden and enjoy various types of Japanese restaurants.

Leave the station and turn to the left.
It goes through several temples by Jouchiji Temple for the purpose.
Turn right at this sign.
Jouchiji Temple is more attractive than nature’s famous Zen temple, nature is deep and wild
Admission fee 200 yen.
Continue along the bamboo stuff on the side of Jodiji Temple.
It turns into a mountain path from this neighborhood.
Probably it is a squirrel on the way of the trail, if you hear strange cries from the trees.
I will arrive at the Kuzuhara shrine after going on a steep slope for a while.
In the park adjacent to the shrine, a bench is set up and it is ideal for taking a break.
It is a view which can see the city of Kamakura.
Nearby there is a grave of Toshimoto Hino which is a god of Kuzuhara Oka Shrine.
Let’s follow the signs of Daibutu Hiking Course.
It is a luxurious view with sea view.
There is a cafe “Ituki” on the trail.
Koutokuin which there is a great Buddha is 400 meters away.
As you get off the stairs you have a tunnel so please go down the slope without going to the tunnel side.
Kotokuin entrance fee is 200 yen.
It is a famous Kamakura Great Buddha.
You can enter the inside of the Great Buddha with an admission fee of 20 yen.
There are many restaurants and souvenir shops around Kotokuin.
Kamakura gelato is a popular gelato shop. Triple gelato is 520 yen.
Hase Temple is called the western paradore of Kamakura, a Hase-ji temple that is popular as a “flower temple” throughout the year.
Hydrangea was beginning to bloom at this time.
It is said that it will come true if you write a wish in an ema.
You can also enjoy a beautiful Japanese garden.
Kresannsui is a garden style that expresses the landscape of mountain water with stones, sand, etc. without using water such as pond and sewage.
Next to Hase Sta. There is “Haseka Shokudo”.
We will have beer at “Hase Shokudou”.
Raw Shirasu bowls will be served at soy sauce.
You are going to the sea in a few minutes from Hase Sta.
Let’s go to the seaside (to the right) and go to the hot spring if you have time!
The first floor of Inamuragasaki Onsen is a restaurant.
Running around the Imperial Palace is one of the most famous running courses in Japan.
Here we will introduce the course running through the Imperial Palace via the National Assembly building.
The running style that uses the public bath is called “Sento run” in Japan, and the person who enjoys it is called “Sento runner”.
You can run all the baggage in the public bath and you can enjoy the running of the moat of Edo castle easily.
Of course after the running let’s clean the body cleanly with a shower and let’s relax!
How about Kamakura hiking for only 1 hour by train from Tokyo?
Once serving as a holy trail for Shugendou priests, the Ten-en hiking trail along the so-called Kamakura Alps with its highest point Ohhirayama, 159.2meters(about 522 feet) above sea level, is the most popular hiking trail in Kamakura.
Hiker will be able to enjoy a view of Sagami Bay and Mt.Fuji, and visit cave tombs and other historic spots along the hiking trail that about 5.5 kilometers or 3.4 miles stretching from Imaizumidai to Zuisenji.
The hiking route is accessible from several point: Hansobo 半蔵坊 on the premises of the Kenchoji Tenple(an admission fee of 300yen required to enter the tenple), the trail exit near Zuisenji.
It will take two to three hours to enjoy the hiking trail.
Tenen Hiking Course ~ Okuzashiki of Kencho-ji Temple, To Hansobou
Here we will guide the trail in the direction heading from the Kenchoji Tenple to the Zuisenji Temple in kamakura.

Before Kitami Kamakura Station, it is a famous scenic temple”Enkakuji Temple”.
Kenzoji Temple
In addition, although it is natural, since the Tianyuan hiking course passes through the precincts of Kenchoji temple, an admission fee is required. (Pay 300 yen)
When going to the direction length of Kencho-ji and passing too far, it becomes small diameter. It is a Hanzoubou road leading from here to Hanzoubou.
They are Hanzoubou Tengu! The Hanzoubou shrine is coming soon.
Hanzoubou located at the far end of Kenchou temple, where the whole valley is in the precincts. When you climb up the curved stone steps, the statues of the Tengu line up, creating an atmosphere different from the Zen temple like the Kenchou Temple at the foot.
Well, once you pass through the Hanzoubou, you enter the real mountain road. It is about 5 minutes from here to the winning dedicated observation deck. And about 2 hours to Zuisen temple.

The destination zuisen temple is 3.2km away.
There are narrowing, undulations, and quite a walking response.

Finally arrived. Go through the mountain road that continued from Hanzoubou to the top of Mt. Oohira! Ten-En is a sighty square.
You can purchase beer, soft drinks and snacks at the Ten-En resting place, if it openned.
After walking for about an hour the mountain path will end.
It is Zuisenji temple right after exiting the road from the mountain road.an admission fee is required. (Pay 200 yen)
It is almost like a Japanese garden on the moon of Zuisenji Tenple.
It is Kamakuraguu as he goes down the road for a while from Zuisen temple.
Apart from Kamakuraguu, there are many temples around here.
After walking for a while, the most famous Tutuokahachimanguu in Kamakura appears.
There are many restaurants and souvenir shops around Tutuokahachimanguu.
We toast with German beer and sausage shop “Chouzume Ya”.
The road that leads from Tutuokahachimanguu to Kamakura station is called “Komachi Street”, and many shops and shops line up.It is a popular Matcha ice cream shop “Kamakura Chacha”.
You can choose the concentration of Matcha in your choice.

I will introduce a running course that passes Meiji Jingu from Yoyogi Park using the running facility “& MOSH” of Yoyogi Uehara with shower and cafe.
Of course, you can run all the baggage in “& MOSH” while running, so you can run it easily.
Even if you run slowly, it will take about 2 hours of course and you will be showered after running, so you can sip a sweat and go shopping in Shibuya!
It is an exciting course where you can enjoy traditional Japanese shrines and parks in spacious urban areas.
Towards Yoyogi Park, we will proceed “Central Ring Line”.
Eventually you will see Yoyogi Park on the left.
There are many entrances in Yoyogi Park, but today we enter from the West gate（西門）.
Green in the park is beautiful.
There is also a dog run. But the day was early in the morning, so the dogs were still less.
You can enjoy various plants and flowers.
You can purchase drinks and snacks with a shop in the park.
You can also see exciting graffiti.
There is almost no difference in elevation so you can have fun running.
Fountains and ponds are also cool.
To go to Meiji Jingu Shrine, I will leave the Harajuku gate.
As soon as I left the Harajuku gate there is Jingu Bridge, the other side of the bridge is Harajuku station.
The left side of the bridge is the Torii of Meiji Jingu Shrine.
A shrine with luxuriant green surroundings where around 100,000 trees donated from all parts of japan have been planted on a site of about 700,000㎡.
In the precincts, you can find gardens, known as Gyoen, and the treasure museum annex Homotsu Tenjishitsu, which has exhibitions related to deities.
The square in front of the treasure museum Homotsu-den is a place where you can relax.
A wonderful green forest spreads through the torii.
Extensive trees cover the shrine so that it is incredible that this is the middle of the city.
The Otorii gate
With a height of about 12m, the wooden Myojin Torii gate is the largest in japan.

If you go through this gate it is main temple。
The crest of the chrysanthemum is the emblem of the Imperial family.
The Main Shrine
The main shrine visited by many worshipers from japan and abroad.
Where the souls of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken are enshrinned.
In the vicinity of the Main Shrine there are two camphor trees which were planted at the time of foundation, which are called the “camphor couple”.
To return to the running facility break the main hall to the left and “西参道West entrance (参宮橋方面 towards Shingūbashi)”
Let’s proceed to the “西参道West entrance (参宮橋方面 towards Shingūbashi)” sign.
You can see the group of buildings in Shinjuku beyond the huge lawn square.
It is the exit of west approach.
When you leave the shrine there is the “Tokyo riding club“. If you have a child you can ride a pony.
As soon as you leave the “Tokyo riding club” you will find the station on the Odakyu Line Sanguubashi brige.
When you go down the hill along the railway track, you will return to the Yoyogi Park gates again.
You have returned to “& MOSH” from Yoyogi Park.
Take a shower and change clothes.
Each towel can be used freely.
Homemade smoothie follows with an additional charge of 200 yen, charging of mobile phone is free.
There are a lot of delicious restaurants around “& MOSH”.
On this day, I got a dumplings of “按田餃子 Anda dumplings”.
I will introduce a special running course that not only enjoys The Imperial Palace, but also runs through Kanda Myojin Shrine and Yasukuni Shrine, two famous shrines, and in the end can relax with japanese public bath.
The running style that uses the public bath is called “Sento running” in Japan, and the person who enjoys it is called “Sento runner”.
The public bath “Aqua House Edo shop” introduced in this article is one of the public baths that can be used as such “Sento running” and JR Ochanomizu Station is nearest.
Go out to JR Ochanomizu Station at the Hijiri Bashi exit and go to the left to see “Tokyo Sola City”.
Go down the escalator of “Tokyo Sola City” and you go to the plaza.
Let’s go down the slope named “幽霊坂 Hill of gost” by cutting through the plaza.
By the way, it is written that “Tokyo Landmark Gallery” published in the Meiji Era generally came to be called “幽霊坂 Hill of gost” from the dark and lonely atmosphere at the time.
When you go down this slope you will see “神田アクアハウス江戸遊 Kanda Aqua House Edo-yu” on the right.

There is a coin locker on the right side as soon as entering the entrance, and you can leave luggage to this coin locker at “神田アクアハウス江戸遊 Kanda Aqua House Edo-yu”.（Four hours 100 yen）
Let’s start out when it gets easy!
Cross the Shouhei bridge and head towards Akihabara.
It was reported that the bridge was first built in this place was Kanei year (1624 – 1645). When the Tokugawa Tsunayoshi built Yushima Seido which is the Confucius Temple in Genroku 4 (1691), “Shouhei bridge” was named after Confucius’s birthplace of “Shōheigō”.
Kanda Myosin Shrine
This shrine was founded in Tenpyo 2nd year (730).
When the battle of Sekigahara occurred in Keicho 5 (1600), Tokugawa Ieyasu prayed for the victory at this shrine and he won the victory on 15th September. Since then he ordered to perform as an auspicious shrine without disappointment.
The main hall appears when you dive in the torii.
Because of a shrine located next to Akihabara in sacred place of animation, anime girl welcomes us.
Yushima Seido
Yushima Seido is a historical site located next to Kanda myoujin.
It is Confucius Temple built in Genroku by the Edo shogunate fifth generic shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, later became an academic center directly under the shogunate.
Leave Yushima Seido’s Gyoukou Gate and go up the slope and pass through under Hijiri-bashi Bridge and go up the stairs beside the bridge.
Nicholai-do
Once you cross Hijiri-bashi Bridge you will find the church “Nicholai-do”.
Nicholai-do is an Orthodox Cathedral located in Kanda Surugadai, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. “Nikolai Temple” is a common name, derived from the Russian priest priest, St. Nikolai who brought the teachings of Orthodox to Japan. The official name is “Tokyo Resurrection Cathedral”, it is a cathedral that memorizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Ota Princess Inari shrine
According to the literature, Ota Doukan ‘s daughter suffered from smallpox in the middle of the Muromachi period, wandering around the border of life and death. Doukan heard that Imo-arai-inari Shrine in Kyoto had an inspiration for smallpox and prayed for Imo-arai-inari Shrine to recover her daughter that his daughter’s smallpox cured.
Doukan appreciated this event and built Imo-arai-inari in Edo castle in the first year of Chouroku (1457).
Book Town in Jimbocho
This Book Town has a 130-year history.
It is said that the old book shops targeting many law school students founded in this area in the 1880’s opened one after another,
The feature is that each old book store is not a non-genre, each has a specialized field, and the field is rich in variety, such as literature, philosophy, social science, theater, natural science, foreign books, bunko books is there.
The total number of shops is about 200.
Approximately 140 of them are old book shops and about one third of Tokyo’s old books are concentrated in this area.
It happened that there was a festival of the city on this day, and Omikoshi(a portable shrine) were out.
A huge entrance(torii) of Yasukuni Shrine will appear when you go up the slope.
Yasukuni Shrine is a shrine located in Kudan nourth, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, worshiping war deads such as accidents and wars in Japan and abroad as “Eirei”.
you can see a gate door with decoration of chrysanthemum pattern.
The pattern of the chrysanthemum is the emblem of the Imperial Family.
It is the main holl of Yasukuni shrine.
At the exit there is a type of protective dog different from the entrance.
It is the entrance of Kitanomaru Park which was once Edo Castle.
Nippon Budokan
The Nippon Budokan was built as a judo competition venue of the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964, and is now used as an indoor stadium, concert, multi-purpose hall other than martial arts too.
In the park there is a spacious and relaxing lawn area and a large pond and fountain.
Crafts Gallery, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
Going through the park there is the “The National Museum of Modern Art”.
The buillding was built as the headquarters building of the Konoe Division in 1910(Meiji 43).
The Konoe Division was said to be a division composed of excellent soldiers selected from all over the country as a guardian of the Emperor.
After the defeat of World War II, the building was designated as an important cultural property in 1972 (Showa 47), and it opened as Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art Crafts Museum in November 15, 1977 (Showa 52 years).
Aircraft cannon pedestal trace of Chidorigafuchi
It is a trace of an aircraft firearm which built to protect the Imperial Palace and surrounding facilities from air raids by the B-29.
During the wartime, the unit that was located here in the Chidorigafuchi camp was “The Konoe Organic Gun No. 1 Battalion” by The Konoe Division.
At the time, the headquarters building of The Konoe Division was the next CRAFTS GALLERY, THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MODERN ART.
Miyakezaka
There are beautiful landscape “Miyake Zika” in Area around the Imperial Palace.
Miyakezaka is a slope that goes down Uchibori street from outside Hanzomon to the vicinity of the Metropolitan Police Department. Sakurada moat along the slope is known as a very beautiful scenic spot. It was called Miyakezaka from the fact that there was a mansion of the Miyake family of the Mikawa Tahara lord in the place of the present Supreme Court.
Sakurada-mon Gate
Sakurada-mon Gate is one of the gates built in the moat of Edo Castle and is between Sakurada Moat and Gaisen Moat. In 1956 it was designated as an important cultural asset of the country as “Sakuradamon outside the former Edo castle”.
In Edo castle there are two gates of inside Sakuradamon and outside Sakuradamon, but the former is also called Kikyoumon gate, and in the case of simply “Sakuradamon” it often points to the latter.
You can go under Sakurada Gate in the Edo castle wall.
As soon as we pass the Imperial Palace area, we can see the Tokyo station.
After passing Tokyo Station, we pass the Ootemachi business district.
Iliad Japan
This is a steel monument produced by Alexander Liberman (1912 – 1999) in 1987.”Iliad” is an epic of ancient Greek where Homer ranked the Trojan War.Liberman is a Russian-American photographer and sculptor. Worked as a Vogue art director during the 1940s and 1950s
Crossing the Nihonbashi River is in the Kanda area.
There are many delicious restaurants around here.
Why do not you try going when you finish running?

KANDA YABUSOBA

The wonderful thing about this course is that most are gentle downhill.
If you climb up the steep slope to the mountain peak of Mt.Hinode, the remaining trails are the awsome downhill.
Moreover, the best hot springs are waiting at the end of the trail.
With about 3 hours and a harf on running, The majority of the course is gradual descent and can be said to beginners course.
In addition to a wonderful trail, you can taste traditional Japanese cuisine called “konnyaku” at “konnyaku shop Issui” !

This is popular course of Okutama which walking in three peaks.
With about 4 hours of walking, It is a luxurious course that you can taste three mountain peaks, “Mt. Takizumi”, “Mt. Iwatakeishi” and “Mt. Sougaku”.
Easy access with public transportation is also GOOD!
It takes about 1 hours and a half by train from Shinjuku to Okutama
JR 軍畑 Ikusabata station～高源寺 Kougenji Temple（about 30 minutes）
軍畑 Ikusabata Station to 高源寺 Kougenji Temple we walk on a general road where gentle climbing continues. The Hiramizo River flows on the right side of the road, making you feel cool. There is a toilet for 1 person in the Kougen temple.
Start from JR Ikusabata
Take the road sign in front of the station toward “Mt. Takamizu 高水山”.

When the sign of “Mt. Takizumi” appears, proceed to the left.

Kougenji Temple is going to the right on the parting road of the photo.
The altitude difference of Mt.Takamizu from the Kougenji temple is about 400 meters. Probably the first 30 minutes rise is a bit tough. Top of the Mt.Takamizu is surrounded by trees and the view is not good, but a benches and toilets are installed.
You will further climb the slope.

Although it is a Japanese dog, I feel that I am arranging for a wolf style somehow.
This is probably because the land is near the dog’s faith Musashi (Okutama, Chichibu), so that the characteristics of the wolves were added to the Japanese dog.
